A day full of everything great

My friend is visiting me and we have had a great time. Yesterday was full of fun and happiness. We went to several flea markets (I found a perfect autumn jacket and boots), we had a lunch at Café Gopal (it was so good vegan food), visited Moominvalley and watched Mokoma play a surprise gig. Then I got to know that I got a great job! And of course we had to celebrate with Mario, Tetris and sangria. Great day.

Wednesday

A field guide to typestaches

This poster made of different types of font mustaches is hilarious! Get it here.

Tuesday

Something Finnish on the table

A while ago I told you how I was into birchbark. Well, also my mother knows that so she bought me these two beautiful baskets made of birchbark. I'm going to use them as in this photo from Deko-magazine, mixing with modern tableware.

Monday

Small town girl

These photos by Kourtney Roy are dreamy portraits of small town girls, thinking about the lives they’d rather be living at the moment. The girls look like dolls and the painted backround is so 70's but still the feeling in these photos is so strong.

Go to: Kotka

The new Gotham city. I laughed so much when I saw that sign of Kotka-Hamina region, the newly named Gotham in the underground circles. Because it's perfect name (get it? Kot(ka)-Ham(ina) which is almost Gotham). So I decided to really try to make a great go to:-presentation while I was at Kotka, the place by the sea where I was born. But when I got there I remembered why I left: there isn't so much to see or do. That's a shame because Kotka would be a great little town if there were young people there to see the potential and really make it happen. But ok, there are good things too. Like the sea. And the most beautiful city garden Sapokka with its waterfalls and Japanese garden. Then there is the latest architectural achievement, maritime centre Vellamo. And at the moment the Great Plastic Cube (my old high school is under massive renovation and it is under all that plastic). I also recommend a trip in Kymi river (lots of rapids and great place for fishing). My trip at the river with my little brother was this time a bit rainy and we ended up having coffee break at our island lodge. The barley was almost ready and blueberries were so good. Altogether if you want peace and quiet holiday near water and forests and without anything else Kotka is your place.

Friday

Living green

Green Depot is a store (also online!) which sells everything green that you need for building a house to living a life in it. And I mean everything. And the best thing is that all the things are also cool designs (like those Bobble water bottles with built-in filter and Wasaba compostable dinnerware). I think if I visited their store I would go crazy.

Thursday

New Dollars

I quite like these new dollar designs by Dowling Duncan they made for The Dollar Redesign Project. The designs look fresh and modern and I would be happy to carry that kind dollars in my wallet (if I visited USA).

Wednesday

Tapehook

I love this idea by Torafu Architects. Hook that looks like tape. I want to have every colour!

Tuesday

Train station

I'm gonna take a brief visit to Kotka. So maybe few days of silence will be ahead. (And I love the roof at Tampere train station).

Monday

Ode to the Bouncer

I heard this today. The idea is just like with Gorillaz: a secretive band behind animated characters. Studio Killers are a brand new music collective made up of music producers and an animation and design team from Denmark, Finland, and the UK. And great electro music too. I can see myself dancing to this (and I quite like the slightly erotic music video).

Places

I know that I'm a big fan of my home city Tampere. But I cannot help myself. There are so many beautiful places, the atmosphere is just perfect (relaxed and friendly) and everything just kinda works. I love this place so much that I don't want to go anywhere else, even if it's just for a few days (and I am or maybe I was the kind of person who couldn't stay at the same place for more than about 4 months). Everyone here says that the love of Tampere (because everyone who lives here loves this place) has something to do with the tab water we drink. That they put somekind of a love drug in it. Maybe.

Sunday

Candy ceramics

I have always liked ceramics when it's more modern, simple and white. Like Scandinavian design usually is. But when I saw these pieces by Takuro Kuwata I changed my mind. The colours and glazes are so beautiful and I love the rough feeling they have. Makes me want to go back to the ceramics course.
