Jiro dreams of sushi

Last night I watched this documentary of the best sushi chef in the world. It was so elegantly made, touching, beautiful and gave lots to think about. One of the best documentaries I've ever seen.

Monday

Circle and stripes

How much you can express with just a few lines!!! Polish designer Michal Krasnopolski has made these amazing and simple movie posters that illustrate classic movies with a minimalistic touch. I love!

Thursday

Sam and Suzy

This is dedicated to Z <3 I feel like dancing.

Wednesday

The Punk Syndrome

Yesterday we watched this amazing movie: The Punk Syndrome (Kovasikajuttu). The movie follows this Finnish punk band called Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät and its members' everyday life. Pertti, Kari, Mika and Sami are mentally handicapped but that doesn't stop them to make music with attitude. I think everyone should see this. Just because you can learn so much about life from these guys (like that you can cry everytime you're happy and grateful, that you can fall to the ground everytime you see tits or that you can cancel things just because you want to dedicate a day just for yourself).

This movie definitely went to my top 3 of best movies ever seen.

Friday

Wes for Advertising

I didn't know Wes Anderson makes also ads!!!

Wednesday

Shut up and play the hits

Do I want to see this? Yes I do!

Saturday

Advanced Style

When I grow up, I want to be like them! I want that attitude, that creativity and playfulness with their clothes! Everything.

(Also check out this amazing blog called Advanced Style)

Friday

The Royal Tenenbaums

I adore this movie! And yesterday I saw a man and his sons biking and they all were wearing similar sweaters and it reminded me of Chas Tenenbaum and his sons. Maybe I have to watch this again this weekend (as it's raining the whole time).

Saturday

The American West

These photos from the 19th century are taken by Timothy O'Sullivan when he was travelling across the American West with his darkroom wagon. I love especially the first pic from the Pyramid lake, a sacred native American Indian site. All of these reminded me of one of the best films I've ever seen: There will be blood. That period of time and place always seems so fascinating, cruel, mesmerizing, true and dusty.

Monday

Tampere Film Festival 2012

Soon it's here! Something that my collegues have been making to happen this winter (all the posters, catalogues and other graphic stuff). Tampere Film Festival is a short film festival that always has something interesting to show. I'm going to see at least Megacities and Workingman's Death. Also lots of other great stuff there. Totally recommended.

Sunday

Moonrise Kingdom

Can't wait to see the latest film of Wes Anderson, Moonrise Kingdom which comes out (I think) in May.

Miranda July: The Future

Maybe a year ago I saw Miranda July's film Me and you and everyone we know. It was so beautiful. Now I bumped into an offcut of her latest film The Future. And because this little piece of the film is so amazingly sweet, I think I will have to watch the whole movie.

Weekend findings

The most relaxing chillout weekend. After deciding that I wouldn't go to Lost in Music (no one wanted to come along and alone it wouldn't be so much fun) I let myself do all the chillout things that I like: going to flea markets (found cool things like huge bag inspired by my ekolovesanimal post, vintage leather belt, leather tassel and a top), got some take-away food so that I wouldn't have to make food myself, finding new great music (like Real Estate's Younger that yesterday) and watching good movies like Cry baby and Away we go.

Tuesday

Wes Love

I thought I could wait for tomorrow to post this but I'm far too excited. Because today I found out about this greatest project that I have ever heard: Alex Cornell's hypothetical Wes Anderson Film Festival project. I'm a HUGE Wes Anderson fan and all this dedication to him by Cornell is just perfect. I love the graphic designs, I love all the lines that he has gathered from the movies and I love everything in this project. I love Wes and now I love Alex.

Wednesday

Venus

Lost and found. Those words will tell you about my relationship to Air's song called Venus. And when I also saw this video for the song (that a fan has made so nothing to do with Air actually) I was going straight to dreamworld. A little research later I found out that the clip is made of shots from Busby Berkeley's short movie called Wonder Bar (1934). I know I have a thing for early old movies and combined with Venus this is just amazing!

Monday

Weekend with Bill

I have a crush. On Bill Murray. There is something so interesting, beautiful, cynical and sad about him. I have spent the whole weekend with him. First I watched his movie Get Low. Then Lost in Translation (which actually was just because I wanted to be in Tokyo for a while). Now I think I want to marry Bill. Also found this great poster via we are not hip (it would have been too cheeky to put Bill's picture here).

Saturday

Princess story

One of the most beautiful films ever (visually) is Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. Be a princess.
