Friday

The place for nerds (and visualists)

When in London go to Science Museum. I know it sounds a bit nerdy but the place is full of inspirational objects. I visited the museum a few years ago and since that I've been wanting to go again.

Tuesday

Home with prints

Now that I'm still away from home it's nice to watch photos from it. Loving the prints here (my carpet and my dress).

Monday

Early true-colors

This morning (having the TV available is sometimes a good thing) I watched a BBC documentary about a French banker and philanthropist Albert Kahn who started a project to create a colour photographic record of the people of the world in the early 1900. I love the feeling in these photographs, a glimpse of the missing world.

Thursday

Christmas break

I'm taking a break for Christmas. So merry merry merry merry to you all! (My mother got this photo from her English pen pal in the 70´s. Quite flowery. And I love the tree!!)

Wednesday

Naked ladies

Today I learned the English names of Amaryllis also known as naked ladies or belladonna lilies (loving the name "naked ladies"). I got those from work, my Christmas flowers this year.

Tuesday

Again, something hairy

Just a second ago I wanted to have the hairy slippers, now this hairy visor. Again the designer is Tom Scott (and found via Cool Hunting).

Sunday

The blanket

My grandmother made this. Then it was forgotten until I found it recently. Now it's one of my favorites.

Saturday

The sulfur mine

The Big Picture is one of my favorite sites online because of its highly visual way of telling what is happening all around the world. These photos by photographer Olivier Grunewald are from a sulfur mine (in the crater of the Kawah Ijen volcano) in East Java, Indonesia. Nature is beautiful and the blue light of sulfur burning makes these photos dreamlike but I don't think that it's the safest place to work.

Friday

Painting

I did a little painting last month. Just little something for little someones.

Thursday

Reed mobiles

A while ago I made this mobile using drinking straws. It was inspired by traditional Finnish straw mobile and many other designers are inspired by it too. Like Annele Valkama of Creadesign Ltd who designed this Polku reed mobile (on the right).

Tuesday

Shadow duck weather

Yesterday I found these pics from last autumn. We had so much fun with the orange weather.

Monday

Miniature worlds

I love love love these art reliefs by Gregory Euclide.

Sunday

To the space and beyond

The Arecibo message, broadcasted to the space just once at 1974 and Pioneer plaque, sent to space onboard Pioneer10 and Pioneer11 at 1972 and 1973.

Saturday

Hairy slippers

I want these ! Or someone could make me these cool hairy slippers (originals by Tom Scott) that I found via Cool Hunting.

Friday

Alice

I'm staying home for the day because of the flu and I decided to watch Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (finally, I just haven't had time to watch it earlier). But before that I did a little studying of the subject and found this: a first movie version of Alice in Wonderland (1903) by Cecil Hepworth and Percy Stow. Just beautiful. And if you want to make the movie even more dreamlike listen Cocteau Twins's song Alice when watching.

Thursday

These are a few of my favorite things...

Vintage ice cube holder, snake puzzle and virgin coconut oil. The things that make a girl happy.

Wednesday

Hypnotize

I'm having a bit of a flu. This clip just hypnotized me (maybe with the help of feeling just sooooo sloooow). Loving the colours though.

Tuesday

Decorations

I've been looking for a simple white paper star for my window but I haven't found any good ones. So I was delighted today when I found this easy DIY tutorial by annetaka (found via DIY OR DIE). I got so excited that I made also some other winter decorations and had a hot cup of chocolate coffee. Perfect way to spend your day.

Monday

Origami jewellery

I know that I have a huge crush on everything that has something to do with origami. I already have a few origami inspired earrings (first picture) but when I saw jewellery by Frech Origami Jewellery (second picture) I wanted to have more.

Found via all the mountains

Sunday

Seeing Mary

I'm not a religious person but I have a collection of religious objects at home. I'm still very fascinated by this rosary I got from Mexico. There is a little crystal in the middle and when you look through it you can see The Virgin Mary inside it. Religious or not, it makes me happy.

Saturday

Travels, part I

This is from my travel diary. A page from Thailand. Loving the colours and shapes.

Friday

The power of your blood

I found this great designer Mike Thompson who uses science and especially chemistry to create his designs. This  lamp can be used only once and it gets its power from blood. A bit different source of light.

Wednesday

The illusion

Last summer we talked a lot about this photo of Salvador Dali (Dali Atomicus) by Latvian photographer Philippe Halsman. Now I'm going to reveal everything. (And yes, the cats are really thrown in the air.)
